Congregational Life Committee Mandate

Mandate

To foster a culture that enables the sustained engagement of congregation members by building relationships and encouraging their involvement in the life of the Church.

Functions

  1. plan strategies for community building and programs to implement those strategies;
  2. develop new opportunities for engagement that values the members and enriches the congregational life;
  3. assess congregational growth potential; and
  4. develop strategies for congregational growth and expansion.

Included in this mandate, as clarified by the Board, is the responsibility for welcoming new members aged 30-45, which aligns with the Emerging Spirit initiative of the United Church General Council. Another change for 2007 is that the Affirm Group, which used to find its home within Congregational Care, has been welcomed to Communications Committee. This move recognized the priorities of the Affirm Group no longer really include fostering a culture of inclusion for lesbian and gay members, because such a culture is already firmly established at Met. Instead, the Affirm Group focuses exclusively on publicizing the existence of Met’s welcoming culture to the broader community, primarily through the Pride Day float.
