Music Committee
Mission
Mandate: The mandate of the Music Committee is to:
-Facilitate the ministry of music in Metropolitan’s worship services.
-Support the church’s spiritual nourishment of the congregation.
-Provide musical outreach to the broader community.
Functions: The functions of the music committee are to:
-Support the Director of Music in providing the highest quality of music through a variety of groups and programs.
-Support and sponsor public musical presentations at Metropolitan Church and other locations.
-Exercise good stewardship in maintaining our historical organ and carillon as well as the church’s other musical instruments.
-Oversee the annual music operating budget and the concert fund budget.
-Provide input into the selection of any contract musicians.
-Support and liaise with the Silver Band as it provides music at services and programs of outreach to the community.
-Provide monthly minutes to the Official Board and an annual report to the Congregational Annual Meeting.
-Liaise with the Christian Education Committee in the creation of programs for children and youth and with other committees as needed.
-Liaise with the Worship Committee to ensure that the music component of the liturgy is consistent with the Worship Committee’s directions.
The Music Committee supports and oversees both the paid music staff at Metropolitan as well as many volunteers.

The various music groups all help to bring musical enjoyment as well as spiritual nourishment to Metropolitan’s congregation and the many people who attend our concerts.
Musical Groups:
Adult groups - Metropolitan Choir – meets every Thursday for 2+ hours, sings Sundays and special services from September through June -
Metropolitan Silver Band – meets every Tuesday for 2+ hours, plays at Metropolitan 6 times/year and throughout the GTA and Ontario (occasionally other tours) – September-June
Metropolitan Handbells – meets every Thursday for 1 hour, plays occasionally on Sundays and special events – September-June
Youth groups – Great Heart ensemble - meets after Sunday services and after school during the week in smaller groups –
September through June, with special programming during July and August
Children’s groups – Metropolitan Sparklers, Metropolitan Choristers – Meet each Sunday from 10-10:30 am September-June,
singing occasionally in worship and special events
