Outreach Committee

Mandate

To provide opportunities to put faith into action in the broader community.

Functions

General Functions

  1. Define the mission and goals of any Outreach programs or projects carried out under the committee's mandate.
  2. Oversee the budgeting and budget monitoring of any Outreach programs or projects carried out under the committee's mandate.
  3. Design and deliver communication programs and other reports to the congregation in order to develop their understanding of, and commitment to, the mandate of this committee.
  4. Support the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada.
  5. Inform the congregation about issues of peace and social justice that arise in the larger community, and the rest of the world.
  6. Support the Narthex Committee to provide a welcoming presence to mid-week visitors.

Community Services Program Functions

  1. Review the Director of Community Service's planning and implementation of programs and projects in relation to a defined mission and goals.
  2. Be aware of and stay informed via monthly reports, of the programs and activities designed to meet the mission and goals.
  3. Review and evaluate the effectiveness of Community Services programs and activities, in collaboration with the Director.
  4. Promote on-going liaison with community agencies and organizations to assess the relevance of our programs, and avoid unnecessary duplication.
  5. Assist in the preparation of all grant applications, keep the larger organization aware of such applications, and monitor the administration of these applications.
  6. Ensure that all volunteers and staff are screened, and given adequate training and support.
  7. The chair of the committee, along with some or all committee members, and the Ministry and Personnel committee will oversee the hiring of the Director of Community Services.
  8. The chair of the committee and a representative of the Ministry and Personnel committee will oversee the evaluation of the Director of Community Services.
