Metropolitan United Church

Gerald Martindale was appointed Carillonneur of Metropolitan United Church in 1997. He studied carillon with Dr. Sydney Shep, former Carillonneur of the University of Toronto. He earned a Bachelor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Windsor and holds Associate Diplomas in Organ from the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto and the Royal Canadian College of Organists.

On a private basis, Mr. Martindale teaches organ, carillon, and theory. He also rings with the Metropolitan United Church handbell choir, which he occasionally rehearses and conducts. In addition, he sings with a large community choir and is the piano accompanist for a youth choir.

His carillon playing has been broadcast on several television stations and recorded on two CDs produced by Metropolitan United Church. For seven years he has been very active as an extra actor for movie and television productions.

In the summer of 2006 he embarked on his 9th annual carillon concert tour of the United States, and his 3rd biannual tour of Europe.

Besides North America, he has performed carillon recitals in Ireland, England, Holland, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, and Sweden.
