Contribute Funds

As one of Toronto's largest cathedrals, ministering to the city's core, Metropolitan depends on the generosity of its members and neighbours to meet its ever-increasing expenses. All donations to Metropolitan will receive a tax receipt at year end.

Our Charitable Business number is 129946588RR0001.

Each year, members of the congregation are asked to complete an "Estimate of Giving" card on Stewardship Sunday. We don't ask for this estimate just to be nosy: we need the information so that we can responsibly manage our budgets and expenses.

Here are nine ways you can give:

1. PAR (Pre-Authorized Remittance)

If you have automatic deductions from your bank account to pay for insurance or your mortgage, then you understand the PAR (Pre-Authorized Remittance) principle. It means monthly contributions throughout the year. This contribution method allows us to plan our budgets more accurately, because pre-authorized donations guarantee us a steady income stream. If you'd like to arrange a PAR, you should:

  • decide the amount of your monthly offering
  • fill in an Authorization Card from the church, attach a sample cheque from your account marked “Void" and return it to the church office via mail or the offering plate. Your account will be debited on or about the 20th of each month.
2. Credit Card (Visa, American Express, MasterCard)

Complete an Estimate of Giving Card indicating which credit card you wish to use. Include your card number and expiry date, the dollar amount you want charged to your credit card and when you wish to have it debited to your account.

3. Postdated Cheques

Supply postdated cheques, made payable to Metropolitan United Church. We will hold your cheques in the church office and deposit them on the cheque date.

Note: for the above three methods of giving you will receive a year's supply of Offering Cards which you may, if you wish, place in the offering plate each Sunday, indicating you give electronically or via postdated cheques.

4. Offering Envelopes - Cheque or Cash Offering

Ask us for an offering envelope number and a year's supply of offering envelopes in which to put your cheque or cash offering. If you are visiting or do not have or want a supply of these envelopes please use the green envelope located in the church pews. Fill in the front portion and place on the offering plate.

5. Gifts of publicly traded securities

(stocks, bonds, shares, mutual funds)
Deliver your certificates to the church office signed over to Metropolitan United Church, along with a letter stating you are donating them to Metropolitan United Church. Please advise us where you want these funds designated. We will send these securities to our broker and issue you a tax receipt for the closing price of the security for the day on which our broker receives it.

6. Planned Giving

You can secure our ministry for future generations and save taxes with gifts of stock, life insurance, annuities, trusts and bequests.

7. United Way

Donating to the United Way at work? You can specify you wish a portion of your donation to go to Metropolitan United Church. You must quote our full name, address and our Charitable Business No. 129946588RR0001.

8. In Memoriam Gifts

This is a truly meaningful way to acknowledge that you remember someone close to you, and to express your sympathy and respect to surviving family members and friends. We will notify the family of your donation.

9. Commemoration of a special occasion

A gift to Metropolitan United Church is a caring and significant way to honour a friend, relative or colleague is to recognize a special occasion in their life with a gift of faithful stewardship.
