Mission

Metropolitan's Community Services outreach programs help people in need, and this is our way of putting faith into action in the broader community. Our programs assist with food and clothing and provide counseling and referrals to appropriate community resources. Staff assist clients in moving to greater independence by helping them to access housing and employment and by providing ongoing support. The immediate objective is to help people recover their self-esteem and get back on their feet. The church's longer-term goal is to work for social justice in society.

This goal is based on the belief that outreach is fundamentally different from charity; we must address not only social problems, but also their causes.

Our programs are delivered in Metropolitan's newly renovated lower level, known as the Metropolitan Centre. And this is a centre: a centre of need, warmth and caring. Here, we not only help others, but come away amazed at how much we can grown and learn.

Outreach Committee Mission Statement
Our mission is to effectively meet the basic physical, emotional and spiritual needs of people within our community in a manner that is consistent with the values of our faith. Our Mission is to provide programs that address mental, physical and spiritual needs of all who come into our building in an effort to develop a more just community.

The Outreach Committee recognizes the creative spirituality of all people and seeks to foster its development, appreciating the richness and the diversity of the community. The Outreach Committee endeavours to reflect that diversity in its planning.

Scope and Scale of Metropolitan United's Community Services
This is not an easy time for the poor and disadvantaged in the community. Needs continue to grow and are being addressed within the church's limited resources. All of our programs and services are offered at no cost to participants. Through these many contacts Metropolitan has had a positive impact in the community.
