Peace and Social Justice Committee Action Cells! At a recent meeting of the Peace and Social Justice Committee, we broke into three "sub groups" or "action cells" and, in addition to the general work done by the committee, will be tackling specific problem areas. Peace and Ecumenism issues - This group will focus on ecumenism, education and broader peace initiatives, with strong reference to United Church position papers. The group will work on publicity and organize and participate in various events. Homeless and Poverty initiative - This group's first order of business is to organize the October 21 Peace and Social Justice service at Metropolitan. There will be a Lunch and Learn session following that will focus on homelessness and feature three speakers from "Voices from the Street" - fellow Torontonians who are either currently without housing, or who have only been recently housed. The group will also explore other initiatives. Green Met - This group is taking our stewardship of the earth as its inspiration and is embarked on an exciting project to establish bike lockers at Met, as well as other green church initiatives. There are many other exciting things happening as well. Information will appear regularly in the church bulletin, the church newsletter and on this website. Also, the Peace and Social Justice Committee meets monthly, on the second Sunday, at 12:30. The meetings are usually held in the basement, in the Heritage Room, which is along the west wall towards the front. A warm, warm welcome is always extended to anyone who would like to help us try to put our faith into action!
