Why did we need a new site?

At its 2006 congregational forum, Metropolitan United Church identified that improving communications, both within the congregation and outside in the community, is a strategic imperative. Clearly, in this day and age, an organization's website is one of its most significant communications channels. Until now, we've relied on a single volunteer webmaster to maintain our website. However, as our website has become a more important communications tool, the demands on the site and on our webmaster have grown substantially.

So, in 2006 and early 2007, we invested in new web production and management tools that would allow us to:

  • Share the workload more fairly and ensure we are investing our limited volunteer resources appropriately;
  • Save time through a more efficient production process that allows designated staff and volunteers to post their own content;
  • Save money (system is based on free software);
  • Present an integrated, coordinated image of Met to our members and the community.

We are confident that an easy-to-update, user-friendly website, filled with current, relevant information, will be of great use to current members, staff and visitors, including the 30-45 year olds being targeted as “high potential" by the United Church of Canada's Emerging Spirit project.
