Sermons The Sermon is a primary means of communication in a Protestant worship service. It is a teaching tool, a vehicle for inspiration, and a bridge between the Biblical texts, the contemporary scene and the human heart. The sermon, delivered by the preacher, takes place in the ears of the hearers. The congregation is active in this. As in a good game of tennis, the preacher serves the text and the people run to return the serve. Back and forth, back and forth it goes. Sometimes the people serve, or events of the day command the scene. The intention is always towards meaning, encouragement and worth.
