Ministry & Personnel Committee

Metropolitan United Church is fortunate to be led by a team of two committed pastors. As a teaching facility, our ministry is occasionally supported by student ministers.

Slowly, slowly the little bird builds it's nest

When I was in Burkina Faso with my sister this summer, I learned the saying "Doni doni kono nita niama" which means, in Jula (the language of the Jula people who live in Bobo Dioulasso), "Slowly, slowly the little bird builds its nest." This had become a bit of a motto for me as I work on launching the website, and passing responsibility over to the organization, one twig at a time.

Rev. Malcolm Sinclair to take sabbatical

Jesus took time from his ministry to be in touch with nature, to allow space to hear the voice of God, to gain perspective and spiritual strength. Likewise it is important that those who engage in ministry have time and space to recharge their batteries.

The policies of the United Church allow for ministry personnel to apply for sabbaticals after five years of ministry. It has been close to 20 years since the Rev. Malcolm Sinclair began his ministry here at Metropolitan, and we are happy to advise that the official Board has approved a six month sabbatical for him, from April 1, 2008 until October 1, 2008.

Sabbaticals are designed to create a space for recreation, revitalization and reflection.
