Why did we need a new site?

At its 2006 congregational forum, Metropolitan United Church identified that improving communications, both within the congregation and outside in the community, is a strategic imperative. Clearly, in this day and age, an organization's website is one of its most significant communications channels. Until now, we've relied on a single volunteer webmaster to maintain our website. However, as our website has become a more important communications tool, the demands on the site and on our webmaster have grown substantially.

Are the events listings up to date?

Yes! One of the new benefits of our new production system is that we have linked Met's own event-booking database. Committees and staff submit the events, and then they are automatically “pushed" onto the events page of the website.

I find the site and the viewing window too small. Can you make it bigger?

This is something you can do yourself to suit your own preferences. Simply adjust the size of the window in which you're viewing the site directly from your browser.

How do I provide feedback about the site or content ideas?

Drop us a line. If you already have a user account, you can also submit a case in our project case tracker. Doing so helps us to keep track of your suggestions, and makes sure that none of your input is lost.

Can I post a blog?

Yes. One of the benefits of our new site is that members and adherents now have the capability to create their own web logs (or blogs) to share their thoughts and engage in lively dialogue with other members. Blogs are not moderated. You will need to register before you're able to create your blog, and will need to log in each time if you wish to add to your blog or view the blogs of other members. Once you register, you will be given your own password and login ID.

Who are approved users and how do I get a password?

If you want a password so you can create your own blog, or view committee minutes etc, just email your request to our site's webmaster and say you're asking for a password. Right now, we're only giving passwords to members and adherents (people who are involved in the church community on a regul

Do I need to register or log-in to visit the site?

No. Most of the content on this site is open and available for the whole world to view, just like any other website. But we have some restricted areas, because they contain confidential information, or contain items that are in draft format and not ready for public viewing, etc. Approved users will need a password to get into these areas.

What will I find on the site?

We've tried to include everything you've ever wanted to know about Metropolitan United Church, including its past, and present and future. Our goals for the site are to:

Provide relevant, timely, easy-to-find content about Metropolitan, with “news you can use" information such as location, hours, description of services, events calendars, etc.;
Provide inspiration for members to get involved and for non-members to visit by reflecting the meaningful spiritual experiences that Met offers;
Portray Metropolitan as caring, committed, compassionate and connected;
Build a sense of connection to the world at large, by providing access to content from the United Church of Canada and other external sources;
Build a sense of community and responsibility by allowing members and staff to contribute their own stories and content, and respond to contributions from other members;
Provide a venue for two-way dialogue and communications;
Ensure a consistent user experience through a content structure that is easy for users to navigate and find the information they need;
Promote the church as a destination of choice for visitors and a venue of choice for event-producers.

This website is intended for members and friends of Metropolitan United Church, and so that the world at large can visit us, at least virtually.
