PublicWhat is baptism?Baptism is a sacramental seal acknowledging our welcome into and acceptance of Christian life. In the United Church of Canada, baptism is one of the two sacraments that we celebrate, along with Holy Communion. At Metropolitan United Church, we baptize any who come to us seeking this sacrament, regardless of church association. Baptism is not a requirement for God's love. We believe people who die without baptism are in no way condemned, lost, or damned. Local AttractionsWhy not plan to follow our 11 a.m. Sunday service by spending an afternoon in the neighbourhood? St. Lawrence Market (Front and Jarvis streets) has been named one of the finest markets in the world. While the south (food) market is open from Tuesday to Saturday, the north building hosts an antique market every Sunday. Metropolitan United Church is fortunate to be led by a team of two committed pastors. As a teaching facility, our ministry is occasionally supported by student ministers. RecordingsIf you enjoy hearing Metropolitan's many musical groups perform in the church, and want to continue enjoying our music at home, or share the experience with friends and loved ones from afar, now you can. We have produced a series of recordings that show the best of Met. These are all available directly from the church, or by calling 416-363-0331. Visa accepted. Listed below are the recordings currently available. Who We HelpMetropolitan's outreach services have a tremendous impact on our community. Through the Community Services Program, we welcome all who come to us. We welcome people lacking the most basic human needs: food, clothing, a place of respite from the elements, the need to be heard. The first step in helping people is meeting the people who need help. At Metropolitan United, we have been meeting people through programs that offer assistance while beginning positive connections with caring volunteers. We have had remarkable success in getting to know people. And as people get to know each other, trust builds among them. Some of the people in need begin to feel comfortable speaking to volunteers and facilitators about challenges in their lives. Some may want a home. Some need comfort. Some need help with specific problems in their lives.
