Chances are you did not know that this Sunday was once known in parts of the Christian Church as the beginning of a set of days known as Rogation Days. The word 'rogation' comes from the Latin verb 'rogare': to ask. These days were instituted way back in 470AD following a particularly bad run of natural disasters in a parish in France. Prayers were made for plentiful harvest, preservation of the bounds of the parish, and mercy and justice for those in it - the parallels to our time seem apt. We will examine a bit of liturgical history and make some 'asks' in our time and place.

  • Carillon: Prelude from Belmont Suite (Knox)
  • Prelude: Various (Buxtehude; J.S. Bach; S. Wright)
  • Readings: Deuteronomy 11:10-15; 1 Corinthians 3:10-17; Psalm 23; Mark 4:26-32
  • Sermon: "Seed Supply" (The Rev. Karen Bowles)
  • Anthem: The Lamb (Tavener)
  • Postlude: Trumpet Tune (Swann)
