This fall we welcome a new Junior Organ Scholar to Metropolitan, Matthew Fraser.
A Message from Matthew
I’m Matthew Fraser, this year's Junior Organ Scholar, and I’m honoured and thrilled to be working at Met alongside the talented ministry team and, based on first impressions, what seems to be a genuinely loving and caring congregation. Prior to moving to Toronto to undertake a Bachelor of Music in Performance at UofT, I was a graduate of the Halifax Grammar School in Nova Scotia where I was the Head Boy. Since 2016, I’ve been the Student Organist at St. Matthew’s United Church (Halifax), where I worked and studied with Wayne Rogers (Minister of Music) and the Minister, Rev. Betsy Hogan, who happens to also be my mother. At the same time, I’ve been privileged to periodically work in interfaith settings at the Atlantic School of Theology, in churches of many denominations, and as a member and Program Committee Chair for the Royal Canadian College of Organists Halifax Centre. Over the course of my studies, I will be working with the United Church of Canada and a team of musicians and clergy from across the country in creating a new hymn supplement for the church's centenary in 2025. I look forward to eventually meeting all of you and leading music for worship both in person and online!
