At Metropolitan United Church, a wedding is a rite of blessing available to all committed, caring couples regardless of gender, religion (or no religion), or church membership. We believe God intends loving relationships to be faithful, responsible, healing, and sustaining for the couple and those around them.

The process for booking your wedding is quite simple:

1. Read the WEDDING ARRANGEMENTS PACKAGE
2. Contact our Office Administrator with required info and any questions
3. You will then meet with a minister and the wedding will be confirmed
4. A contact will be issued and a non-refundable deposit secured

If you have any questions about the process, please contact our Office Administrator, Sheela, at 416-363-0331 ext. 210, or at sheelat@metunited.ca

FAQs

Do I have to be a member of Metropolitan United Church to get married there?

No, you don't need to be a member in order to be married at Metropolitan. We hope that once you enter our beautiful Gothic Revival sanctuary, you may well feel inspired to explore our community life more deeply. We suggest you attend a service or two to experience the preaching, music, and people.

Do I have to be a Christian to be married at Metropolitan?
No, we marry people of all faith traditions. In fact, we not only provide a traditional Christian wedding service, but also offer services with a more contemporary flavour that honour the personalities and life experiences of the couple.

Is there a cost to be married at Metropolitan?
Yes, you may contact our Office Administrator for details. The cost for a wedding in our Sanctuary, seating up to 800 people, is usually $2,500. Smaller weddings in the Founder's Chapel are possible for a lower cost. A $500 deposit is required in order for your wedding to be booked, with the balance due 30 days prior to your wedding date.

What does that cost include?

  • Use of our Sanctuary for the service, and for photography afterwards
  • Services of a Metropolitan minister
  • Services of our Director of Music & Organist to play organ or piano
  • Rehearsal space and time before your wedding
  • Care and custodial service
  • Sound system and staff person to assist with the flow of your wedding
  • Free parking at our Bond Street lot for the wedding principals

Can I get married any day of the week, or any time of the day?
You can plan your wedding for any day or time between Monday and Saturday. We do not usually hold weddings on Sundays as the sanctuary is in use for our regular Sunday services.

How many people can be seated in the church?
Our sanctuary, including the balcony, holds 800 people comfortably. In the main sanctuary, a wedding of 100 to 400 people easily fills the building.

Do you provide a minister?
We will supply a minister to preside over your wedding, and you can choose from our Ministry personnel. They will gladly meet with you in advance to help you plan a ceremony that reflects your culture and tradition. Please contact Sheela Taylor at 416-363-0331 ext. 210 or sheelat@metunited.ca for more information.

What about the party after the wedding?
There are hundreds of restaurants downtown who would love to host the wedding party. Some couples prefer to use the Met Centre which can accommodate up to 125 people for dining just beneath the Sanctuary. There is a full kitchen for your caterer.
