Become a Member

Membership at Metropolitan United Church is a step across the threshold towards linking heart, mind, spirit and voice with this faith community. It means deepening your relationship, and exploring further the living reality of being a follower of Jesus Christ.

Membership is a process of discovery. Some people arrive at Met as seasoned veterans to the United Church, and others are newcomers seeking a new faith community that they can call home.

In the words of Paul to the Colossians: "As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience."

If you're not prepared to become an official member of Metropolitan, you are welcome to consider yourself an "adherent". An adherent is someone who is involved with the church, and attends regulary, but hasn't taken the final step to becoming a member. Some people choose to describe themselves as adherents if they have been born into another faith, and wish to continue respecting that as well. Or you can just come and join us when you're able.

How to become a Member
1. Join us for a Sunday 11 a.m. service. We hope you will feel and embrace a real sense of the community and fellowship.
2. If you like what you've experienced, contact Rev. John Joseph Mastandrea(information below) and let him know that you are considering membership at Metropolitan.
3. You will be invited to attend a Membership Inquiry Day with John Joseph. At this time, you will be given the opportunity to explore membership with Metropolitan in a time of story sharing, breaking bread--as well as a full guided tour of the entire church.
4. A few days later, John Joseph will contact you to learn your decision concerning membership.
5. Once you have communicated your decision to become a member, we will set a date for Membership Reception, held during our regular 11 a.m. Sunday service. You will be formally welcomed before the Congregation at that time.
6. We encourage an active membership at Metropolitan. You may consider bringing life and vision to committee work or the many day to day tasks that keep Metropolitan up and running.
7. A key component of membership also includes stewardship of our personal resources. At this juncture you may have received Offering Envelopes or have arranged to placed on PAR or perhaps require information about these pathways. Ask a staff person and they would be delighted to assist you with questions concerning stewardship.
