Fifth Sunday After Pentecost

Fifth Sunday After Pentecost

The Spiritual Practice of Being Neighbour

When I needed a neighbour
Were you there, were you there?
And the creed and the colour
And the name won't matter
Were you there?

- Sydney Carter

For the third Sunday in A Summer of Spiritual Practices, drawing on the witness of the prophet Amos and Jesus' parable of the 'Good Samaritan', The Rev. Jason Meyers will preach on 'Being Neighbour.’

Also leading in worship are Dr. Linn Holness, Wayne C. Vance Organ Scholar Michael Oldaker, soloists Jim Nixon and Charles Davidson, and guest carillonneur Dr. Minako Uchino. The offertory solo, "Is Someone Out There?" is from Maury Yeston's In the Beginning, a musical that imagines everyday, ordinary 'Biblical bystanders' and their reactions to well-known Old Testament events.

Residents of Davenhill Senior Living to be evicted

As you may already be aware, about 150 seniors have recently been told they will need to find somewhere else to live, two months after their building at 877 Yonge St. was sold to "a numbered company connected to a Toronto real estate development lawyer."  You can learn more in this Globe and Mail story.  This remarkably disruptive situation directly affects a number of Metropolitan Members.  A group from the church is working to help find alternative housing. Davenhill has also hired relocation consultants to assist in this process. We will continue to monitor this situation. Your prayers for all the residents and staff of Davenhill Senior Living are appreciated at this time.
