The Spiritual Practice of Discernment

This Sunday brings us 'The Spiritual Practice of Discernment,' examining Luke 13:10–17, as The Rev. Karen Bowles leads us in the penultimate week of A Summer of Spiritual Practices.

Also leading in worship are Dr. Linn Holness, Minister of Music Dr. Patricia Wright, soloist Benjamin Stein, and carillonneur Roy Lee.

Please join us prior to the service at 10 a.m. in the Founders' Chapel for reflection on last week's practice.

Last Week's Practice

Last Week's Practice

The take home exercise for last Sunday ('Reading Scripture') was:

● Consider a different version of the prayer of Jesus. Here's a translation of The Lord's Prayer, from Jesus' mother tongue of Aramaic, by scholar Neil Douglas-Klotz.
● As you pray this version, notice how it affects you: what feelings arise; what resistance do you portray. Does the praying of one version affect the other? If so, how?

O Birther! Father- Mother of the Cosmos
Focus your light within us – make it useful.
Create your reign of unity now-
through our fiery hearts and willing hands
Help us love beyond our ideals
and sprout acts of compassion for all creatures.
Animate the earth within us: we then
feel the Wisdom underneath supporting all.
Untangle the knots within
so that we can mend our hearts’ simple ties to each other.
Don’t let surface things delude us,
But free us from what holds us back from our true purpose.
Out of you, the astonishing fire,
Returning light and sound to the cosmos.
Amen.

We meet to reflect at 10 a.m. on Sunday in the Founders' Chapel.
