Sunday June 23

Sunday June 23

A Celebration of Pride and Covenanting with Rev. Karen J. Bowles

For the 11:00 a.m. service, The Rev. Karen Bowles is calling her sermon “What George Croly Said!” “Times of change can send us off kilter and out of balance. In order to find equilibrium again, we need to stay in the time of transition for a while. Stay and perhaps canvas the places in our communal lives that need some attention. Asking how it will be among us is the work of the next while. I will seek the advice of George Croly on Sunday to get us started.”

For the organ prelude, Dr. Patricia Wright will play Petite Suite and Pastorale on "Capetown" by Gerald Bales, and "Adagio" from Symphony No. 5 by Charles-Marie Widor. The organ postlude will be "Toccata" from the same Symphony No. 5. This is the last Sunday until September for the Metropolitan Choir, and the anthems will be Lord, Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace by Jonathan Willcocks and Open Thou Mine Eyes by John Rutter. At the Offertory, Great Heart will sing One More Colour by Jane Siberry. The hymns are No.606 (In Christ There is No East or West), No.378 (Spirit of God, Descend Upon My Heart), and No.506 (Take My Life). The final piece in the carillon prelude played by Roy Lee will be Evocations of Morecambe by Richard von Grabow.

The Bible readings are Genesis 9:12-15 (the covenant with Noah), Galatians 3:23-29 (the purpose of the law), Philippians 1:3-10 (Paul’s prayer for the Philippians).
