Noon at Met 26-27 starts with a roar, as Jonathan Oldengarm performs Edward Elgar's monumental Organ Sonata in G major, op. 28. Rejected by the English publisher Novello but quickly picked up by the German firm Breitkopf, this mighty and expressive work is widely considered the high point of the English Victorian organ school.
