METROPOLITAN’S NORTH-END RENOVATION

  • Accessibility
  • New Facilities
  • Modernization

The long-delayed renovation of the north end of Metropolitan’s building has begun! The north end of the building, from top to bottom beyond the alcoves to the Sanctuary, is being completely redone—including a new space, which will be dug out under the Chancel Room to complete the lower level.

Accessibility

This work will make Metropolitan United a fully accessible building with a full-car elevator and ramps to serve all three levels. There will be accessible washrooms and routes throughout the building, including the south entrance. The elevator will be a life-changing element for congregational life.

New Facilities

A new room is being constructed below the existing Chancel Room. Other major changes include a new weekday entrance off Church Street, new meeting and performance space in the former Chancel Room, and the creation of a youth space in the new basement.

Modernization

The renovation will provide upgraded air-conditioned facilities for our own programs and for rental purposes. There will also be all-new plumbing, and communications and IT infrastructure will be improved as part of the process.
